وسـاقه الحـرص الى حتفه
A neighbor of ours died of overeating,
Our greedy neighbor died of overeating,
And greed drove him to his doom.
His greed led him to his final breath.
مثّـلَpersonified فيin البطنةgluttony إنكلتراEngland
مثّـلَ في البطنة إنكلترا
اذfor ماتhe died واللحمةand the piece of meat فيin كفهhis palm
اذ مات واللحمة في كفه
In his gluttony, he personified England,
In his belly he embodied England,
For he died with a piece of meat in his palm.
As he died with a morsel still in his hand.
