وَكَريمٍand a noble man نالَgained الكَرامِةِhonor مِنّاfrom us
وَكَريمٍ نالَ الكَرامِةِ مِنّا
وَلَئيمٍand a base man ذيpossessing نَخوَةٍpride قَدalready أَهَنّاwe humbled
وَلَئيمٍ ذي نَخوَةٍ قَد أَهَنّا
And a noble man gained honor from us,
A generous one attained dignity from us
and a base man, full of pride, we humbled.
While a miserable wretch with valor we disgraced
ثُمَّthen لَمdid not يَرجِعِreturn الكَلامُthe words إِلَيناto us
ثُمَّ لَم يَرجِعِ الكَلامُ إِلَينا
لَوif تَرىyou see فيin الكَلامِthe speech أِنthat قَدalready أَذِنّاwe gave permission
لَو تَرى في الكَلامِ أِن قَد أَذِنّا
Then the words did not return to us,
Then no words returned to us
if you could see in the speech that we had given leave.
If you could see how with words we have sinned
