وّذي ضِغنٍ كَفَفتُ النَفسَ عَنهُ

وّذي ضِغنٍ كَفَفتُ النَفسَ عَنهُ

وَكُنتُ عَلى مَساءَتِهِ أُقيتُ

وَكُنتُ عَلى مَساءَتِهِ أُقيتُ

And many a rancorous man—I held myself back from him,

And I restrained myself from one who bore a grudge,

though I had the power to do him harm.

though I was able to harm him.
