يَاoh حَبَذَاhow lovely الكاَسُthe cup بِكَفِّin the hand of الحَبِيبْthe beloved
أَذَابَتit melted الأَنَوْارَthe lights وَسْطَamid اللَّهِيبْthe blaze
Oh, how lovely the cup in the beloved's hand!
O how delightful is the cup in the hand of the beloved
It has melted the lights amid the blaze.
It melted the lights amidst the flames
وحَبَذَاand how lovely الرَّاحُthe wine الَّتِيwhich لَمْhas not تَزَلْceased
تَصْرِفُنِيcarries me away بِالسُّكْرِthrough drunkenness حَتَّىuntil أَغِيبْI lose awareness
And how lovely the wine that has never ceased
And how delightful is the wind that never stopped
To carry me away in drunkenness until I lose awareness.
Intoxicating me with rapture until I disappear
يَاO غُصْنَbough of البَانِthe bān tree (moringa) أَدِرْpass round وَرْدَهُits rose
والوَرْدُand the rose فيupon البَانِthe bān tree لَعَمرِيby my life عَجِيبْwondrous
O bough of the bān tree, pass round its rose;
O branch of acacia, turn its roses
And a rose upon the bān tree, by my life, is wondrous!
And the roses on the acacia are for me wondrous
وَنَاوِلِand offer الأَقْمَارَthe moons شُهْبَthe shooting stars of الدُّجَىthe darkness
يَاO شمْسُsun والأَمْرُand the matter أَيْضاًalso غَرِيبْstrange
And offer the moons the shooting stars of night,
And pass the moons the sparks of dusk
O sun—and this too is strange!
O sun and the matter is also strange
أَفْدِيكَI would ransom you مَاnot فِيin صَبْوَتِيmy passion رَيْبَةٌdoubt
وَلاَnor لِسُلْوَانِيfor my forgetting بِقَلْبِin a heart تَصِيبْyou find
I would ransom you; there is no doubt in my passion,
I sacrifice for you, there is no doubt in my youth
Nor do you find room in a heart for my forgetting.
Nor any fault in my infatuation
فَاحْكُمْso decree بِمَاwhatever شئْتَyou wish سِوَىexcept جَفْوَتِيshunning me
فِعْلُthe deed of حَبِيبيmy beloved كُلُّهُall of it ليto me حَبِيبْdear
So decree whatever you wish, except to shun me:
So judge as you wish besides my aloofness
My beloved's every deed is dear to me.
For the act of my beloved is all dear to me
