لِيfor me فِيin هَوَاكُمْlove for you مَذْهَبٌa path مُذْهَبُgilded
لِي فِي هَوَاكُمْ مَذْهَبٌ مُذْهَبُ
ومَطْلَبٌand a quest مَامِثْلُهُnone like it مَطْلَبُa quest
ومَطْلَبٌ مَامِثْلُهُ مَطْلَبُ
In loving you, I have a gilded path,
In your love I have a way, a singular way
and a quest no other quest can match.
And a quest, the like of which no other quest
أًَصْبَحْتُI have become عَبْداًa slave رَاضِياًcontent بالَّذِيwith what
أًَصْبَحْتُ عَبْداً رَاضِياً بالَّذِي
تَرْضُونَyou approve لاَnot أَرْجُوI hope وَلاَnor أَرْهَبُI fear
تَرْضُونَ لاَ أَرْجُو وَلاَ أَرْهَبُ
I have become a slave, content with what
I have become a willing slave, pleased with what
you approve; I neither hope nor fear.
You want, I neither hope nor fear
إِذَاwhen تَجَلَّىshines forth كَاسُthe cup سَاقِيكُمُyour cupbearer
إِذَا تَجَلَّى كَاسُ سَاقِيكُمُ
كُنْتُI was لَهُfor it أَوَّلَthe first مَنْwho يَشْرَبُdrinks
كُنْتُ لَهُ أَوَّلَ مَنْ يَشْرَبُ
When your cupbearer's cup shines forth,
When your cupbearer's cup appears
I am the first to drink from it.
I am the first to drink
وَإِنْand if تَغَنَّىsings بِاسْمِكُمْwith your name مُنْشِدٌa chanter
وَإِنْ تَغَنَّى بِاسْمِكُمْ مُنْشِدٌ
فَإِنَّنيthen indeed I أَوَّلُthe first مَنْwho يَطْرَبُis enraptured
فَإِنَّني أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَطْرَبُ
And if a chanter sings your name,
And if a singer sings your name
then I am the first to be enraptured.
I am the first to rejoice
يَاO قَمَراًmoon فيin مُهْجَتِيmy heart's core لَمْhas not يَزَلْceased
يَا قَمَراً في مُهْجَتِي لَمْ يَزَلْ
مَطْلَعُهُits rising place المَّشْرقُthe east وَالمَغْرِبُand the west
مَطْلَعُهُ المَّشْرقُ وَالمَغْرِبُ
O moon within my heart's core, ever
Oh moon in my imagination that has continued to rise
rising in both east and west!
In the east and set in the west
وَيَاand O غَزَالاًgazelle فيin فُؤادِيmy heart لَهُfor it
وَيَا غَزَالاً في فُؤادِي لَهُ
مَرْعىًa pasture وَمِنْand from دَمْعِيmy tears لَهُfor it مَشْرَبُa watering place
مَرْعىً وَمِنْ دَمْعِي لَهُ مَشْرَبُ
And O gazelle, within my heart you have
Oh gazelle in my heart that has
a pasture, and from my tears a watering place.
Pasture and drinks from my tears
مَاnot العَيْشُlife إلاَّexcept فيin هَوَاكَlove for you الَّذِيwhich
مَا العَيْشُ إلاَّ في هَوَاكَ الَّذِي
كُلُّall نَعِيمٍbliss فَلَهُso to it يُنْسَبُis ascribed
كُلُّ نَعِيمٍ فَلَهُ يُنْسَبُ
Life is only in love for you, to which
Life is not life except in your love
all bliss is ascribed.
To which all pleasures are ascribed
