If one who loves you sways in pride, there is no blame.

And who could behold that beauty and not yearn?

And who is given wine through remembrance of you,

Yet does not sway in pride, as self-admiration exalts him?

You have taken creation captive with your beauty, though you are veiled.

What then of one who loves you, if the veils fall away?

And you have become the beloved of all hearts,

And not an atom in the universe is without a heart.

When lovers grow drunk, you are their drinking companion,

And you are their cupbearer, and you are their drink.

And if the camel-driver chants softly and they sway with longing,

Then they have no aim or desire but you.

And why should lovers not melt with longing

And ecstasy, when the sovereign of the fair is their beloved?
