لَوْلاَwere it not for الحَيَاءُmodesty وَأَنْand that يُقَالit be said صَبَاhe yielded to passion
I would surely cry out مِلْءَfull measure of السَّمْعِhearing وَاطرَباoh, what rapture!
Were it not for modesty and fear they would say, 'He has yielded to passion,'
I would cry out for all to hear, 'Oh, what rapture!'
حَضَرَhas come الحَبيبُthe beloved وَغابَand has gone حَاسِدُناour envier
مِنْfrom بَعْدِafter طُولِlong duration of تَحَجُبveiling وَخَباand concealment
The beloved has come, and our envier has gone,
After long veiling and concealment.
فَاليَوْمَso today أخْلَعُI cast off فِيكَfor your sake ياO أَمَليmy hope
ثَوْبَrobe الوَقارِdignity وَأطْرَحُand I cast aside الرُّتَباranks
So today, for your sake, O my hope, I cast off
The robe of dignity and cast all rank aside.
