    Nightfall descends from his hair,

or turns to dawn from the front teeth of his mouth.

I marvel at the coolness of his dusky lips, while in

my heart a flame from him scorches.

Drink, gazing on the narcissus of his eyelids,

wine that his glances freely bestow.

And do not say, 'The rose is a guest'; surely

upon his cheeks the rose never departs.

O friend, has what was recounted proved true for us—

on sound authority by the eloquent bird?

For on the horizon I see a deep sea,

where the shooting stars' pearls swim.
