طيوف الأحبة في بابها
I visit the poems, hoping to see
I visit the poems so I may see
the phantoms of loved ones at their door.
The shadows of loved ones in their gates
وأشكوand I lament لحيطانهاto their walls لَوعتِيmy anguish
وأشكو لحيطانها لَوعتِي
فتَشْرَقso they choke بالدّمعِon tears ممّاfrom what بهاis within them
فتَشْرَق بالدّمعِ ممّا بها
And I lament my anguish to their walls,
And I complain to their walls my distress
so they choke on tears from what lies within them.
So they may glisten with my tears that fell
بشوقينِwith two longings عدتُI returned وذكراهمُand the memory of them
بشوقينِ عدتُ وذكراهمُ

تعضّ الفؤادَ .. بأنيابِها
With two longings I returned, and the memory of them
With longing I returned, their memory
bites the heart with its fangs.
Gnaws my heart with its fangs
