How can I hide my love for you,
How can I hide in you a love
When my whole being has betrayed its signs?
that has grown beyond all of me?
آهِah! منfrom وجدٍpassion تجلّىrevealed itself
آهِ من وجدٍ تجلّى
شفّdisclosed عنabout شوقlonging ٍوميلand attraction
شفّ عن شوق ٍوميل
Ah, the passion that revealed itself,
Oh, what passion has been revealed
Disclosing longing and attraction.
laying bare longing and desire—
لامنيblamed me منwhoever لامَblamed .. جهلاًout of ignorance
لامني من لامَ .. جهلاً
بالهوىof love .. والعذلand reproach عذليmy reproach
بالهوى .. والعذل عذلي
Whoever blamed me did so in ignorance
do not blame me for ignorance
Of love—and my reproach is for reproach itself.
of this love, this cruel torment.
ياO خليّاًone free of love عابfound fault with مابيwhat ails me
يا خليّاً عاب مابي
لاnot ابتلاكَafflict you اللهGod .. مثليlike me
لا ابتلاكَ الله .. مثلي
O heart-free one who faulted what ails me,
My dear, do not blame what is in me.
May God not afflict you as He has me.
May God not test you like me.
