Leave the allure of forms and names,

And the delusion of explicit speech and suggestion.

دع كلّ نجلاءٍ ..  وكلّ كحيلةٍ

دع كلّ نجلاءٍ .. وكلّ كحيلةٍ

ومزيّفاتِ .. الغُنجِ والإغراءِ

ومزيّفاتِ .. الغُنجِ والإغراءِ

Leave every wide-eyed beauty and every kohl-eyed one,

And those who feign coquetry and seduction.

و دعِ القشورَ من الحياةِ وأهلها

و دعِ القشورَ من الحياةِ وأهلها

وتعالَ نجلو جوهرَ الأشياءِ

وتعالَ نجلو جوهرَ الأشياءِ

And leave the husks of life and its people,

And come, let us uncover the essence of things.

وتعالَ أورثكَ  الهيامَ مواطنًا

وتعالَ أورثكَ الهيامَ مواطنًا

فالشّوق أرضي والغرامُ سمائي

فالشّوق أرضي والغرامُ سمائي

And come, let me bequeath you passion as homelands:

For longing is my earth, and ardent love my sky.

و دعِ اللواتي لو روينَك بالهوَى

و دعِ اللواتي لو روينَك بالهوَى

ما كانَ  إلا قطرةً من مائي

ما كانَ إلا قطرةً من مائي

And leave those women who, were they to quench your thirst with love,

It would be but a drop of my water.

و دعِ النساءَ وإن كتبنَ ملاحمًا

و دعِ النساءَ وإن كتبنَ ملاحمًا

فأنا الأمامُ  وكلّهن ..  ورائي

فأنا الأمامُ وكلّهن .. ورائي

And leave women, even if they have written epics,

For I am in the lead, and all of them are behind me.
