وأنتَ الذي بالحبّ هيّجتَهُ دهرا !
Do you ask about my heart, when you know it best?
You ask about my heart, yet you know it best?
And you are the one who stirred it with love for so long!
You who for so long have stirred it with love!
لعمريby my life لقدindeed زادincreased السؤالthe question لهيبهits blaze
لعمري لقد زاد السؤال لهيبه
وأشعلهand set it aflame شوقًاwith longing .. وصيّرهand turned it جمراembers
وأشعله شوقًا .. وصيّره جمرا
By my life, the question has indeed intensified its blaze,
Truly, your questioning but fans its flames,
And set it aflame with longing, and turned it into embers.
