A memory has built an edifice in the soul’s very heart.

ماهئتُ والله كلا أو هممتُ به

ولا رأيتُ لكي أقصيه بُرهانا

ولا رأيتُ لكي أقصيه بُرهانا

I never readied myself—by God, no—nor resolved upon it.

Nor have I seen any proof that would let me banish it.

استنزلُ الصبر من لي ؟ لا بشيرَ ولمْ

تحمل ليَ الريحُ ممن غابَ سلوانا

I call down patience—who is there for me? No bearer of good news, nor

has the wind brought me solace from the absent one.

حيرى .. كأنّي على الأعرافِ واقفةٌ
