يجهرُspeaks aloud بالهوىof love قلبيmy heart ويبقىand remains
لسانيmy tongue صامتاًsilent إذْwhen .. I meet him
My heart speaks aloud of love, while
My heart proclaims its passion yet
my tongue remains silent when I meet him.
my tongue falls silent when I meet him
ويُبحرُand sails فيin مدىthe expanse عينيهِhis eyes شَوقيmy longing
ويُجبرنيand compels me الحِجىreason أنْto أتّقيهِbe wary of him
My longing sails through the expanse of his eyes,
My yearning sets sail in the sea of his eyes
and reason compels me to be wary of him.
Modesty compels me to be wary of him
وأقسمand I swear أننيthat I لولاwere it not for حيائيmy shyness
لثمتُI would kiss حروفهhis letters توقاًin longing ... لفيهِfor his mouth
And I swear that, were it not for my shyness,
Were it not for my shyness
I would kiss his letters, yearning for his mouth,
I would kiss the letters of his name
ولوّنتُand I would color الرياضthe gardens بوردwith the roses of خدّيmy cheek
لينعمَso he may revel فيin جمالٍbeauty يشتهيهِhe desires it
and color the gardens with the roses of my cheek,
I would adorn the gardens with my rosy cheeks
so he might revel in beauty he desires.
So he could revel in the beauty he desires
I would give myself for فؤادَهُhis heart لوْif كانَit were يقوَىstrong enough
أحبّكَI love you قلتُI would say ألفاًa thousand times ياشبيهيO my likeness
I would give myself for his heart; if it were strong enough,
I ransom his heart - if only he had the courage -
'I love you,' I would say a thousand times, O my likeness.
To say "I love you" a thousand times, my beloved
