إِعلَمknow أَباAbu (father of) أَروىArwa بِأَنَّكَthat you are ماجِدnoble
إِعلَم أَبا أَروى بِأَنَّكَ ماجِد
مِنfrom صُلبِthe loins of شَيبَةَShaybah فَاِنصُرَنَّso surely support مُحَمَّداMuhammad
مِن صُلبِ شَيبَةَ فَاِنصُرَنَّ مُحَمَّدا
Know, Abu Arwa, that you are noble,
Know, O Abu Arwa, you are glorious
From Shaybah's loins; so be sure to support Muhammad.
Of the lineage of Shaybah, so aid Muhammad
لِلَّهِto God دَرُّكَyour excellence إِنif عَرَفتَyou recognized مَكانَهُhis standing
لِلَّهِ دَرُّكَ إِن عَرَفتَ مَكانَهُ
فيamong قَومِهِhis people وَوَهَبتَand you gave مِنكَfrom yourself لَهُto him يَداa helping hand
في قَومِهِ وَوَهَبتَ مِنكَ لَهُ يَدا
God bless you, if you recognize his standing
May God bless you if you know his place
Among his people and offer him a helping hand of your own.
Among his people, and lend him your hand
أَمّاas for عَلِيٌّAli فَاِرتَبَتهُso she reared him أُمُّهُhis mother
أَمّا عَلِيٌّ فَاِرتَبَتهُ أُمُّهُ
وَنَشاand he grew up عَلىin مِقَةٍlove لَهُfor him وَتَزَيَّداand increased
وَنَشا عَلى مِقَةٍ لَهُ وَتَزَيَّدا
As for Ali, his mother reared him,
As for Ali, his mother bore him
And he grew up loving him, his love ever increasing.
And he grew on her breast, nurtured and suckled
شَرُفَhe gained honor القِيامَةthe Resurrection وَالمَعادand the Return بِنَصرِهِby supporting him
شَرُفَ القِيامَة وَالمَعاد بِنَصرِهِ
وَبِعاجِلِand in the present life of الدُنياthis world يَحوزُhe attains السُؤدداeminence
وَبِعاجِلِ الدُنيا يَحوزُ السُؤددا
He gains honor at the Resurrection and the Return by supporting him,
The honor of Judgment Day and the hereafter is in aiding him
And in this present world he attains eminence.
And in this world’s bounty, he reaps rewards
أَكرِمhow noble بِمَنis the one who يُفضىis confided إِلَيهِto him بِأَمرِهِwith his affairs
أَكرِم بِمَن يُفضى إِلَيهِ بِأَمرِهِ
نَفساًin soul إِذاwhen عدَّhe counted النُفوسَthe souls وَمَحتِداand in lineage
نَفساً إِذا عدَّ النُفوسَ وَمَحتِدا
How noble is he to whom one confides one's affairs,
Honor the one to whom leadership is yielded
In soul, when souls are reckoned, and in lineage,
A soul, when souls are counted and registered
وَخَلائِقاًand in qualities شَرُفَتwere ennobled بِمَجدِby the glory of نِصابِهِhis ancestry
وَخَلائِقاً شَرُفَت بِمَجدِ نِصابِهِ
يَكفيكَsuffices you مِنهُfrom him اليَومَtoday ماwhat تَرجوyou hope for غَداtomorrow
يَكفيكَ مِنهُ اليَومَ ما تَرجو غَدا
And in character, ennobled by the glory of his ancestry.
And creations ennobled by the glory of his leadership
From him today you have enough of what you hope for tomorrow.
What you hope for tomorrow, today suffices you from him
