ألاAh! لَيتَwould that شِعريmy knowing كَيفَhow فيin النَأيِremoteness جَعفَرٌJa‘far

وَعَمرٌو وَأَعداءُ النَبِيِّ الأَقارِبُ
Ah, would that I knew how Ja‘far fares far away,
and ‘Amr, and the Prophet’s enemies—his own kinsmen.
فَهَلso, have ...? نالَreached أَفعالdeeds النَجاشيِّof the Negus جَعفَراًJa‘far
فَهَل نالَ أَفعال النَجاشيِّ جَعفَراً
وَأَصحابَهُand his companions أَوor عاقَhindered ذَلِكَthat شاغِبُa troublemaker
وَأَصحابَهُ أَو عاقَ ذَلِكَ شاغِبُ
So have the Negus’s favors reached Ja‘far
and his companions, or has some troublemaker hindered that?

Know—may you be beyond reproach—that you are noble,
generous, so no stranger fares ill in your presence.
