My messenger, when no messenger visits them,

is the east wind and an easterly breeze—nay, youthful longing and acceptance.

And a heart other than the battalion’s heart is valiant,

and an edge other than the sword’s edge is polished.

وما حسن صبر ما ترين ولا رضى

بنأي ولكن المحب حمول

And what you see is neither graceful patience nor contentment

with separation; but the lover bears much.
