قد قلت حين افاض أحمد سيبه
ياO شقوةmisery المتشبهينthose who emulate بأحمدlike Ahmad
يا شقوة المتشبهين بأحمد
Indeed, I said when Ahmad poured forth his bounty:
When Ahmad poured forth his army, I said:
Oh, the misery of those who emulate Ahmad!
"O splendor of those who resemble Ahmad!
يشرونthey buy مثلthe like of جيادهhis steeds وعبيدهand his slaves
يشرون مثل جياده وعبيده
افيقدرونare they then able? علىto ابتياعpurchase السؤددnobility
افيقدرون على ابتياع السؤدد
They buy steeds and slaves like his;
They ride out like his steeds and slaves -
Can they, then, purchase nobility?
Can they afford to buy dates?"
