وأرَّقand kept awake الأرضَthe earth حتىuntil مَلَّتِgrew weary of الأرقاsleeplessness
The rain awoke after sleep and poured in torrents;
The rain awoke from sleep and poured forth.
it kept the earth awake until she wearied of sleeplessness.
And kept the earth awake until it wearied of sleeplessness.
وأصبحand became at dawn الزَّهرُthe flowers منثوراًscattered ومؤتلقاًand radiant
وأصبحand became الروضُthe garden مَصبوحاًgiven a morning drink ومغتبقاand given an evening drink
The blossoms emerged scattered and gleaming,
And at dawn the flowers lay scattered and radiant.
and the meadow was given drink both morning and evening.
And the garden drank its morning and evening draughts.

منof السماءthe sky دَنَتdrew near للأرضto the earth فاعتنقاso the two embraced
The pools heaved, until a quarter of the sky leaned down,
And the pools surged until a weary portion
drew near to the earth, and the two embraced.
Of heaven drew near the earth, and the two embraced.

The knolls almost dissolved through it into sodden soil,
And the hillocks almost turned to moist soil because of it.
while the face of the earth clothed itself in leaves.
And within it the earth's surface clothed itself in leaves.

It clung to the horizon so long that most of us
And it clung to the horizon until most of us
would forget the stars—or think dawn would never bloom.
Would forget the stars—or no daybreak would sprout.

لسناwe are not نذمُّcondemning سوىexcept إسرافهits excess خُلُقاas a trait
It satisfied us and lavished so much that the greediest among us said:
It satisfied and gave abundantly, until the most eager among us said:
“We fault it for no trait but its extravagance.”
“We fault no trait of its character except its excess.”

The face of the earth kept being given its copious bounty,
Its copious flow kept being laid upon the earth's face (wording unclear),
until I imagined the hills were choking, unable to swallow.
Until I thought the hills were choking on water.
