ماnot الدَّهرُtime لولاكwere it not for you إلاexcept مَنطقٌspeech خَطلُsenseless
Say to the prince in whom the age takes pride:
Say to the prince in whom the age takes pride:
Without you, Time is nothing but foolish speech.
Were it not for you, time would be nothing but senseless speech.
كفتكَhave sufficed you آثارُdeeds كَفَّيكَyour two hands التيwhich ابتدعتyou created anew
فيin المجدglory شادهbuilt it آباؤكyour forefathers الأُولُof old
The works of your own hands suffice you—works that created anew,
The deeds you newly wrought with your two hands suffice you
in the realm of glory, what your earliest forefathers had raised.
in the glory your forefathers of old built.
ماnot زالceased فيamong الناسpeople اشباهٌpeers وأمثلةٌand equals
حتىuntil ظهرتَyou appeared فغابthen vanished الشكلُthe peer والمثلُand the equal
Among mankind there were always peers and equals,
There had always been peers and equals among people,
until you appeared—then peer and equal vanished.
until you appeared, and peer and equal vanished.
