ندمتَ على التفريط في زَمَنِ البَذرِ
If you have not sown, then see a reaper,
If you have not sown and you see a reaper,
you will regret your neglect in the season of sowing.
you will regret your neglect when it was time to sow.

If you wish to borrow money to spend
If you wish to borrow money to spend
on the soul’s desires in a time of hardship,
on the soul's desires in a time of hardship,

then ask your soul to spend from the treasury of its patience
then ask your soul to spend from the treasure of its patience
upon you, and to grant you respite until a time of ease.
on you, and to grant you respite until a time of ease.

If you do so, you are the rich one; but if it refuses,
For if you do so, you will be rich; and if it refuses,
then every withholder after it is amply excused.
then anyone who withholds after that has ample excuse.

وإنand even if ضَلَّتwent astray الآراءُopinions فيin كثرةِthe abundance of الوَفرِpossessions
وإن ضَلَّت الآراءُ في كثرةِ الوَفرِ
Poverty is not the noble person’s destitution, nor does wealth lie—
And poverty is not a noble person's destitution, nor does wealth—
though opinions stray—in sheer abundance.
even if opinions go astray—lie in abundant possessions.
وبعضُand some الغِنىwealth تمحُوerase المعائبُflaws حُسنَهits beauty

ويَخلُصُ طبعُ المرءِ في حالةِ العُسرِ
Some wealth has its beauty effaced by faults,
And flaws erase the beauty of some wealth,
while a person’s true nature emerges pure in hardship.
and a person's nature becomes pure in hardship.
