منwho ذاthis الغَزَالُthe gazelle الفاتنُbewitching الطَّرفِthe gaze
الكاملُperfect البَهجةِbeauty والظَّرفِand grace
Who is this gazelle, whose glance bewitches,
Who is this gazelle with the bewitching gaze,
perfect in loveliness and grace?
Perfect in beauty and grace?
ماwhat بالُthe matter عَينيهِhis two eyes وألحاظِهُand his glances
دائبةًceaselessly تَعمَملُwork فيtoward حَتفيmy death
What is it with his eyes and glances,
What is the matter with his eyes and glances,
ceaselessly working toward my death?
Ceaselessly working to bring about my death?
واهاًah! لذاكfor that الورِدthe rose فيon خَدِّهِhis cheek

Ah, that rose upon his cheek—
Ah, for that rose upon his cheek—
if only it were not impossible to pluck!
If only it were not impossible to pluck!
أشكوI complain إلىto قلبكَyour heart ياO سَيَّديmy lord
ماwhat يَشتَكيsuffers قلبيmy heart منfrom طَرفيmy gaze
To your heart I complain, my lord,
I complain to your heart, O my lord,
of what my heart suffers from my own eyes.
Of what my heart suffers because of my gaze.
