نَشوانُintoxicated with joy يَلقىmeets المُعتَفىthe seeker of bounty مُتهَلِّلاًbeaming
نَشوانُ يَلقى المُعتَفى مُتهَلِّلاً
يَهتَزُّsways منfrom مَدحٍpraise بهِwith it عطفَاهُhis two sides
يَهتَزُّ من مَدحٍ بهِ عطفَاهُ
Intoxicated with joy, he meets the seeker of bounty, beaming;
both his sides sway at praise.
وإذاand when أصاخَhe listens intently إلىto المديحِthe praise رَأَيتَهyou see him
وإذا أصاخَ إلى المديحِ رَأَيتَه
وكأنand as though مالكMālik طيِّئِof Ṭayyiʾ غنَّاهُsang to him
وكأن مالك طيِّئِ غنَّاهُ
And when he listens intently to praise, you see him
as though Mālik of Ṭayyiʾ had sung to him.
