عِراقَيَّةٌIraq-bound مِنon دونِهاthis side of it بَطنُthe valley of حامِرِḤāmir
My people departed in two bands; of the two,
My people have endured a separation in two,
one was Iraq-bound, with the valley of Ḥāmir between us.
One part Iraqi, the other with a pregnant belly,
بِماhow often قَدonce أَرىI would see مِنهُمwith them حَصيداḤaṣīd مُكَلَّلاّgarlanded

How often I saw Ḥaṣīd garlanded with them—
By what I have seen of them, a harvest adorned
with the folk of Malāl, with its ridges and evening company.
With the flag of boredom and armor of patience.
