By your father's life, O son of Abu Murayy,

it was someone other than you who opened the lands to them.

He opened to them sandy, rocky hills bearing blossoms,

where they graze on dry herbage and fragrant ‘arār flowers.

Thanks to God, and then to the young man of Quraysh,

Abu Wahb, they became full-bellied and rich in milk.

He gave them free access, withholding no pasture from them,

when, in a drought year, you were slaughterers.

A young man whose two hands reached the heights of honor,

and crushed the short, stunted hands.
