كملتwere perfected بنعتِthrough praise of محمدٍMuhammad خيرِthe best of الورىcreation
كملت بنعتِ محمدٍ خيرِ الورى
غررُwhite forehead-blazes القصائدthe poems كلِّهاall of them وحجولهاand their white leg-markings
غررُ القصائد كلِّها وحجولها
Through praise of Muhammad, the best of creation, perfected are
Through praise of Muhammad, the best of creation, were perfected
the radiant brow-marks and white fetlocks of every poem.
The forehead-blazes and white leg-markings of all poems.
واختصand he was singled out دونto the exclusion of الأنبياءthe prophets بدعوةٍfor a call
واختص دون الأنبياء بدعوةٍ
وسعembraced العبادَGod's servants عمومُهاits universality وشمولُهَاand its comprehensiveness
وسع العبادَ عمومُها وشمولُهَا
Unlike all other prophets, he was singled out for a summons
And he alone among the prophets was singled out for a call
whose universality and all-embracing reach encompassed all people.
Whose universality and scope embraced all God's servants.
فاضتflowed abundantly علىupon الثقلينthe two races: humans and jinn منهfrom him أشعَّةٌrays
فاضت على الثقلين منه أشعَّةٌ
طلعتthey rose وماand no عقبfollowed الطلوعthe rising أفولهاtheir setting
طلعت وما عقب الطلوع أفولها
From him, rays streamed over humankind and jinn;
Rays streamed from him upon humankind and jinn;
they rose, and no setting followed their rise.
They rose, and no setting followed their rising.
فالإنسthus humankind تعلمknows أنهthat he is مقصودهاits sought-for one
فالإنس تعلم أنه مقصودها
والجنُّand the jinn توقنare certain أنهthat he is مأمولهاtheir hoped-for one
والجنُّ توقن أنه مأمولها
Humanity knows that he is the one it seeks,
Thus humankind knows he is the one it seeks,
and the jinn are certain that he is the one for whom they hope.
And the jinn are certain he is the one they hope for.
كمhow many آيةٍa sign بالصدقِin truth كانwas ظهورهاits manifestation
كم آيةٍ بالصدقِ كان ظهورها
كمhow many آيةٍa verse بالسَّبقin advance كانwas نزولهاits revelation
كم آيةٍ بالسَّبق كان نزولها
How many a sign appeared, confirming the truth!
How many a sign appeared in truth!
How many a sign was sent down beforehand!
How many a verse was revealed beforehand!
وكفاكand it suffices you هذاthis الوحيthe revelation فهوfor it is شهادةtestimony
وكفاك هذا الوحي فهو شهادة
لمحمدfor Muhammad لزمwas incumbent upon العبادGod's servants قبولهاacceptance of it
لمحمد لزم العباد قبولها
This revelation is enough for you, for it is a testimony
And this revelation suffices you, for it is testimony
to Muhammad that all people are bound to accept.
For Muhammad, which God's servants are bound to accept.
جمعgathered الإلهُGod المكرماتِthe honors لأمَّةٍfor a community
جمع الإلهُ المكرماتِ لأمَّةٍ
هذاthis النبيthe Prophet الهاشميthe Hashimite رسولهاits messenger
هذا النبي الهاشمي رسولها
God gathered every noble grace for a nation—
God gathered honors for a community
this Hashemite Prophet is its messenger.
Whose messenger is this Hashimite Prophet.
