وصفواthey described بالفضلas excellent قوماًa people
وصفوا بالفضل قوماً
وهُمُwhile they ليسواare not هنالكat that level
وهُمُ ليسوا هنالك
They ascribed excellence to certain folk,
They credited a people with excellence,
though those folk were nowhere near it.
though they have no such standing.
كَثُرَbecame abundant النقلthe transmitted reports ولكنand yet
كَثُرَ النقل ولكن
صحwas authentically reported عنfrom سهلSahl بنson of مالكMalik
صح عن سهل بن مالك
Reports were many—but one was sound:
Reports have multiplied, and yet
that related on the authority of Sahl ibn Malik.
