لا زال في عفو وعافية

تمض الليالي وهي لا تمضي

May he never cease to enjoy pardon and well-being;

Let the nights pass, while that well-being never passes away.

وسعادة تبدو دلائلها

منه على الإبرام والنقض

And good fortune whose signs appear

From him in ratifying and revoking.

ومكانة طرف الحسود لها

وبنانه في الغض والعضّ

And a rank before which the envier's gaze

Is lowered, and his fingertips are bitten.

هذا مكان القول ذو سعة

فضل التقى وطهارة العرض

This is a spacious field for speech:

The excellence of piety and the purity of honor.

تأوي المعارف من نداه إلى

بعد المدى في الطول والعرض

Knowledge, through his bounty, finds refuge in

An expanse far-reaching in length and breadth.

شابت خلائقه على ضمأٍ

صرف الحجا بالسؤدد المحض

His traits, amid thirst, have blended

Pure reason with unalloyed nobility.

فالله يمتع أمليه به

ويصون رونق علمه الغض

So may God let those who hope in him enjoy his presence,

And preserve the fresh luster of his learning.

فبقاؤه وبقاء مشبهه

زمن لأهل الأرض والأرض

For his continuance, and that of his like,

Are an age for earth's people and the earth itself.

نظر نواظره مسهدة

لنواظر ملئت من الغمض

His eyes keep a sleepless watch

For eyes filled with slumber.

أخللت بالكلّ الحقيق له

وأتيت من علياه بالبعض

I have fallen short of the whole that is his due,

And have conveyed only part of his greatness.

وأرى النوافل لا تصحّ إذا

ذهب الفساد بصحة الفرض

And I see that voluntary devotions are not valid when

Corruption has undone the validity of the obligatory duty.

ومقام سيدنا ومسندنا

أبهى حلى لكنه يغضي

And the station of our master and mainstay

Is more splendid in adornment, yet he is forbearing.

فبقيت والأعداء ساهمة

جذلان في دعة وفي خفض

So may you endure, while the enemies are downcast,

Joyful in ease and in comfort,

ما أنَّتِ السُّحبُ الثقال وقد

أخذت عروق البرق في النبض

As long as the heavy clouds moan, while

The veins of lightning have begun to throb.
