O rider of the sturdy she-camel, like a mountain boulder,

may God grant you well-being, draw you near, and show you mercy,

if you convey and deliver the words

from me to ʿUbayd son of Yazīd—if only he knew!

The peoples know full well that vengeance will be taken

on you, on the mother who received you, and on a paternal uncle,

by a Lord who repays wrongdoers for their evil deeds.

I have warned you of violence from an enraged lion,

a marauding sire of two cubs, ferocious and flesh-hungry.

So return to your mother; let her bed you down, and sleep—

to an old woman whose head is like a cairn.

And eat, for God is the bountiful giver of food.
