آلَ الزُبَيرِ وَلَم تَعدِل بِهم أَحَدا
My young she-camel set off at evening, praising
My she-camel went away, a stout Qalwashi she was,
The family of al-Zubayr, deeming no one their equal.
Of Zubair's clan, yet she bore none their equal,
راحَتshe departed بِسِتّينَwith sixty وَسقاًa camel-load (measure) فيin حَقيبَتِهاher saddlebag

ماnot حُمِّلَتshe was laden حَملَهاher load الأَدنىthe lightest وَلاnor السَدَداthe moderate one
ما حُمِّلَت حَملَها الأَدنى وَلا السَدَدا
She departed with sixty camel-loads in her saddlebag,
Sixty measures she bore in her saddlebags,
Laden with neither her lightest load nor a middling one.
Not loaded lightly, nor overburdened.

سِتّينَ وَسقاً وَلا جابَت بِهم بَلَدا
Never before her had I seen a young she-camel carry
Never before saw I a Qalwashi camel bear
Sixty camel-loads, or traverse a land with them.
Sixty measures, or roam in lands so distant,
ذاكَthat القِرىhospitality لاnot قِرىthe hospitality of قَومpeople رَأَيتُهُمI saw them

يَقرونَ ضَيفَهُمُ الملويَّةَ الجُدَدا
That is hospitality—not the hospitality of people I have seen
Those settlements - no clan's settlements - I saw
Serving their guest new, twisted whips.
Receiving guests, new abodes of comfort.
