A phantom visited us late at night and kept us awake,

one from Suʿda’s household; so sleep remained troubled all night.

The sandgrouse cried plaintively at Amman’s gates, and already

her companions had satisfied their needs and desires there.

He strives as his forefathers strove before him,

from the house of Qayn, bounding along their course.
