كَأَنَّas though حَريقاًa fire ثاقِباًblazing brightly فيin أَباءَةٍa reed thicket
كَأَنَّ حَريقاً ثاقِباً في أَباءَةٍ
هَديرُهُماthe roar of the two of them بِالسَبسَبِacross the open waste المُتَماحِلِfar-stretching
هَديرُهُما بِالسَبسَبِ المُتَماحِلِ
As though a blazing fire in a reed thicket
Like a piercing blaze in stubbornness
Were their roar across the far-stretching waste.
Their murmur with the interlaced chain
فَرابِيَةُand the hill of التَأويلِal-Taʾwīl (possibly a place-name) فيat كُلevery نُهزَةٍopportunity
فَرابِيَةُ التَأويلِ في كُل نُهزَةٍ
إِلىtoward بَحَراتِthe open meadows of الحَبلthe sand ridge مِنهُof it الغَياطِلِthickly overgrown
إِلى بَحَراتِ الحَبل مِنهُ الغَياطِلِ
And the hill of al-Taʾwīl, at every opportunity,
The soothsaying of interpretation in every convulsion
Toward its sand ridge’s lush, open meadows.
To the ponds of rope from it the torrents
