غَداًtomorrow يَتَناءىwill go far away صاحِبٌa friend كانَwas ليto me أُنساa solace
فَلاso no مُصبَحٌmorning ليfor me فيin السُرورِjoy وَلاnor مُمسىevening
Tomorrow a friend who was my solace will go far away.
Tomorrow a companion who was joy to me will depart
So I shall have no morning of joy, nor any evening.
So I will have neither morning happiness nor evening bliss
وَتُصبِحُand will become أَحزانيmy sorrows عَلَيهِover him كَثيرَةًmany
وَيُصبِحُand will become سَعديmy good fortune مِنfrom مَوَدَّتِهِhis affection نَحساmisfortune
And my sorrows over him will grow many,
And many sorrows for him will be my dawn
and the good fortune his affection brought me will turn to misfortune.
And my fortune in his affection will be unlucky at dawn
أَخٌa brother لِيَto me لَوif أُعطِيَwere given المُنىwishes بِاِسمِfor the mention of فَقدِهِlosing him
بِلاwithout فَقدِهِlosing him كانَتwould be بِهِfor him ثَمَناًa price بَخساpaltry
A brother to me: were all wishes granted for the mere mention of losing him,
A brother of mine, if I were given wishes in his name
without actually losing him, they would be a paltry price for him.
Without him they would be low price
فَلَوso if أَنَّthat نَفسيmy soul أَلفُa thousand نَفسٍsouls لَماwould not اِنثَنَتdraw back
يَدُthe hand البَينِof parting أَوuntil توديbring death بِآخِرِهاto the last of them نَفساsoul
So if my soul were a thousand souls, it would never draw back—
And if my soul became a thousand souls
the hand of parting—until it brought death to their very last soul.
The hand of separation would not relent, or be pleased with its last breath
