Time's vicissitudes cowered in fear of you,

And the destitute sheltered in your foliage.

A victory is only a victory won on

A people's steed that has not run in your race.

O Time, straighten your two neck-veins, for

You have made these people cry out at your folly.

Ask your nights, for they know

Which noble man they have made trudge in your chains.

Withdraw your hand from Abu al-Husayn; you will find

His freshness coming to the aid of your worn-out state.

How much anguish for generosity, and how much anxiety

For glory and noble deeds in your anxiety!

May God clothe you in a robe of health,

In the sleep that overtakes you and in your sleeplessness,

Driving sickness from your body, just as

He removed the reproach of deeds from your neck,

Pouring it upon you in torrents, until one sees

Your body, in that health, sounder than your character.
