    Swaggering in a drunken stupor, shameless,

    he cares not which path he takes.

    It is shame enough for you that your reason ceaselessly

    weeps over you, while your face laughs.

    فَهِيَ الَّتي إِن مُتَّ قَبلَكَ تَفتِكُ

    Do not assail the cups by drinking them;

    for if you die, it is they that strike you down first.

    How often you spent the night taking them, while a drinking companion

    of yours spent the night taking from you what he would not leave untouched.

    وَكَذا إِذا ذُكِرَ القُضاةُ فَأَمسِكوا

    I have fallen silent about you, so great is your crime;

    and likewise, when judges are mentioned, hold your tongues.
