يا سَهمُ لِلبَرقِ الَّذي اِستَطارا

يا سَهمُ لِلبَرقِ الَّذي اِستَطارا

باتَ عَلى رَغمِ الدُجى نَهارا

O Sahm, behold the lightning that flared far and wide!

O arrow for the lightning that rose high

All night it was daylight, despite the darkness,

Stayed despite the darkness as daylight

حَتّى إِذا ما أَنجَدَ الأَبصارا

حَتّى إِذا ما أَنجَدَ الأَبصارا

وَبلاً جَهاراً وَنَدىً سِرارا

وَبلاً جَهاراً وَنَدىً سِرارا

Until, when it had aided the eyes—

Until when it helped the sights

A downpour openly, and dew in secret—

And brought openly rain and called secretly

آضَ لَنا ماءً وَكانَ نارا

آضَ لَنا ماءً وَكانَ نارا

أَرضى الثَرى وَأَسخَطَ الغُبارا

أَرضى الثَرى وَأَسخَطَ الغُبارا

It became water for us, though it had been fire;

It quenched for us water and was fire

It pleased the earth and angered the dust.

It pleased the land and angered the dust
