أَجَميلُO Jamil ماwhat لَكَwith you لاnot تُجيبُyou answer أَخاكاyour brother
أَجَميلُ ما لَكَ لا تُجيبُ أَخاكا
ماذاwhat الَّذيthat which بِاللَهِby God أَنتَyou دَهاكاhas befallen you
ماذا الَّذي بِاللَهِ أَنتَ دَهاكا
O Jamil, why do you not answer your brother?
How beautiful that you do not answer your brother
What, by God, is it that has befallen you?
What is it, by Allah, that has made you so arrogant?
أَغِنىًis it wealth ظَفِرتَyou acquired بِهِwith it فَإِنّيfor indeed I فيin غِنىًself-sufficiency
أَغِنىً ظَفِرتَ بِهِ فَإِنّي في غِنىً
مِنof نِعمَةِthe bounty of اللَهِGod الَّتيwhich أَعطاكاHe bestowed upon you
مِن نِعمَةِ اللَهِ الَّتي أَعطاكا
Is it wealth you have acquired? For I have no need
You have gained riches, but I have no need
of the bounty God has bestowed upon you.
Of the blessings of Allah that He has bestowed upon you
بَلrather لاnot نَسيتَyou have forgotten وَلاand not أَلومُكَI blame you خُلَّتيmy friendship
بَل لا نَسيتَ وَلا أَلومُكَ خُلَّتي
وَلَئِنand if indeed فَعَلتَyou have done so لَحادِثٌsurely a misfortune أَنساكاmade you forget
وَلَئِن فَعَلتَ لَحادِثٌ أَنساكا
No, you have not forgotten my friendship, nor do I blame you;
Rather, I have not forgotten, and I do not blame you, my friend
and if you have, surely some misfortune made you forget.
And if you have, it is an incident that made you forget
سَتَلومُyou will blame يَوماًone day سوءَthe badness of رَأيِكَyour judgment إِنَّهُindeed it is
سَتَلومُ يَوماً سوءَ رَأيِكَ إِنَّهُ
رَأيٌa judgment غَوِيٌّmisguided طالَماoften أَرداكاhas brought you to ruin
رَأيٌ غَوِيٌّ طالَما أَرداكا
One day you will blame your poor judgment; indeed, it is
One day you will lament your poor judgement, for it
a misguided judgment that has often brought you to ruin.
Is an errant opinion that has long led you astray
Sol 6.1
