يَومَO day الفِرَاقِof parting لقَدindeed خُلِقتَyou were created عَظيماmighty
يَومَ الفِرَاقِ لقَد خُلِقتَ عَظيما
وَتركتَand you left جِسمِيmy body لاmay not سَقِمتَyou fall ill سَقِيماailing
وَتركتَ جِسمِي لا سَقِمتَ سَقِيما
O day of parting, you were indeed created mighty.
On the day we parted, you became so grand,
And you left my body—may you never fall ill—ailing.
Yet you left my body, neither well nor sick.

ما زَالَ يَعصِفُ بِاللّقاءِ قَدِيما
What ails parting—may its limbs be scattered!
Why did parting shatter him limb from limb?
It has long kept raging against reunion.
The longing for reunion still whips him, as ever it did.
ماnot زِلتُI have ceased بعدَكَafter you ياO أَخيmy brother فيin حَسرَةٍsorrow

وَتَلَدُّدٍ حَتّى أَراكَ سَليما
Since you left, my brother, I have remained in sorrow
Since you left, my brother, I remain in sorrow,
And restless bewilderment, until I see you safe and sound.
Tossing and turning until I see you again, safe and sound.

Read my greeting of peace to you whenever
Whenever the wind blows, splitting you into a gentle breeze,
The winds blow and let you breathe a breeze.
It conveys my greetings and peace to you.
