Muhammad ibn Humayd—have his remains decayed?
Muhammad, son of Humaid, his virtues were created
The water of lofty virtues was spilled when his blood was spilled.
The water of virtues poured since his blood was shed

On the day he lay dead, there awoke against the sons of Nabhan
The Bani Nabhan awoke the day he passed away
the hand of Time—and its mouth—wreaking havoc among them.
The hand of time wreaked havoc on them and its mouth
رَأَيتُهُI saw him بِنِجادِwith the baldric of السَيفِthe sword مُحتَبِياًseated with knees drawn up and bound
كَالبَدرِlike the full moon حينَwhen جَلَتcleared away عَنfrom وَجهِهِits face ظُلَمُهits darkness
I saw him seated, his drawn-up knees held by his sword-baldric,
I saw him wearing the sword's scabbard
like the full moon when its darkness has cleared from its face,
Like the full moon when its darkness receded from its face

in a garden where blossoms rose above its edges.
In a garden whose borders were adorned with flowers
I knew, upon waking, that they were his benefactions.
I realized upon waking that it was his bounty

I said while tears of sorrow and joy both flowed
flowed, their stream having filled both cheeks:
And filled both cheeks as they ran together

فَقالَthen he said ليto me لَمhas not يَمُتdied مَنwhoever لَمhas not يَمُتdied كَرَمُهhis generosity
“Did you not die, O brother of my soul, some time ago?”
Didn't you die long ago, O soul's companion?
Then he said to me, “He whose generosity has not died has not died.”
He said: One whose nobility hasn't died is not dead
