غَطَّتmay cover يَداكَyour two hands عَلَيَّover me فيin لَحديmy grave
وَبَقيتَand may you live on ماas long as مُدَّis prolonged المَدىtime بَعديafter me
May your hands cover me in my grave,
Your hands covered me in my grave
And may you live on as long as time endures after me.
And you remained as long as time endured after me
وَرُزِقتُand may I be granted مِنكَfrom you العَطفَtenderness ماas long as حَمَلَتbears
عَينيmy eye الدُموعَtears وَدامَand endures ليfor me وَجديmy longing
And may I be granted your tenderness as long as
I was granted your kindness as long as
My eye bears tears and my longing endures.
My eyes carried tears and my love endured
نَفسيmy soul بِكِتمانيin my concealment مُعَلَّقَةٌsuspended
بَينَbetween النَوىseparation وَمَخافَةِand fear of الصَدِّrejection
My soul, in my concealment, hangs suspended
My soul is suspended in keeping my secret
Between separation and the fear of rejection.
Between determination and fear of rejection
