Many a coarse-natured man is too coarse for
The surly man of rugged temper may
The delicacy of one like me, in his flesh and blood.
Display harshness from delicacy in my flesh and blood.
نِعمَتُهُhis favor نِعمَةٌa blessing إِذاwhen قُدِحَتit is kindled

لِرِفدِ حُرٍّ ثَنَتهُ عَن هِمَمِه
His favor is a blessing: whenever it is kindled
His kindness is a blessing, when bestowed
To aid a freeborn man, it turns him from his aspirations.
To free a freeman, though it bend him from his whim.
فَصانَso he shielded وَجهيmy face عَنfrom عُرفِهِhis bounty وَحَمىand protected

عِرضي فَلَم يَنتَقِصهُ مِن كَرَمِه
So he shielded my face from his bounty and protected
He shielded my face from his, and guarded
My honor, not diminishing it through his generosity.
My honor, nor diminished it out of his bounty.
فَالحَمدُso praise لِلَّهِbe to God حينَwhen خَلَّصَنيHe delivered me
فَالحَمدُ لِلَّهِ حينَ خَلَّصَني

مِنهُ سَليمَ الأَديمِ مِن نِعَمِه
So praise be to God, now that He has delivered me
So praise be to God who saved me
From him, my skin unscathed by his favors.
From him, safe in body and blessed by His grace.
