فَإِنَّنيfor indeed I لِلَّذيof what حُسّيتُهُI was made to sip it حاسيa sipper
Leave me to drink love, O drinker of the cup;
Let me walk my own path of passion's cup,
For I sip what I have been made to sip.
Though yours may be the sober way.
لاdo not يوحِشَنَّكَalarm you ماwhat اِستَسمَجتَyou found repugnant مِنof سِقَميmy sickness
فَإِنَّfor indeed مُنزِلَهُthe one who inflicted it بيupon me أَحسَنُthe fairest of الناسِpeople
Let not what you find repugnant in my sickness alarm you;
My sorry state should not disturb your calm,
For he who brought it upon me is the fairest of people.
For fate has dealt me well, in its own way.
مِنfrom خَلوَتيmy solitude فيهِabout him مَبداthe beginning of كُلِّevery جائِحَةٍcalamity
وَفِكرَتيand my thought مِنهُfrom him مَبداthe beginning of كُلِّevery وَسواسِobsession
My solitude, spent thinking of him, is the source of every calamity;
In solitude I find escape from harm
And my thoughts arising from him are the source of every obsession.
And peace from every wandering thought.
مِنfrom قَطعِthe cutting off of أَلفاظِهِhis words تَوصيلُlinking مَهلَكَتيmy ruin
وَوَصلُand the joining of أَلحاظِهِhis glances تَقطيعُthe cutting apart of أَنفاسيmy breaths
His words cut short link me to my ruin;
Though severed words may spell my doom,
And his glances joined together cut my breaths apart.
United glances give me life once more.

I was granted tenderness of heart from him, which was marred
A tender heart is mine, though marred by one
By a tormentor—a watcher whose heart is hard.
Whose stony heart is quick to chide.

When can I live by cherishing hope, if
When can I live on hopes, bright but unsown,
The severing of my hope lies in the hands of my despair?
If my own hand cuts hope's last thread?
