I would ransom with my soul a beloved who will bereave me of my soul,

and make my body a gift to the burial niche and the grave.

I have disowned love if, since love made

his beauties my sun, I have looked upon the sun.

The whole world has indeed closed in upon me

through his abandonment, till I seem to be in prison.

I soothe a lovesick heart in which there is mourning

from longing, yet my eye is at a wedding feast.

And I truly fear, should his fortunes lift

him higher, that the jinn will rise against humankind over him.
