أُبادِرُهاI hasten to her بِالشُكرِwith thanks قَبلَbefore وِصالِهاunion with her
وَإِنand if هَجَرَتshe forsakes me يَوماًone day طَلَبتُI seek لَهاfor her عُذراan excuse
I hasten to thank her before our union.
I thank her before she arrives
And if she forsakes me one day, I seek an excuse for her.
And if she is absent one day, I seek an excuse for her
وَأَجعَلُهاand I regard her فيin الغَدرِbetrayal عِنديin my view وَفِيَّةًfaithful
وَإِنand even if زَعَمَتshe claims أَنّيthat I لَهاtoward her مُضمِرٌsecretly harboring غَدراtreachery
And even in betrayal, I regard her as faithful.
And I consider her, despite betrayal, faithful
And even if she claims that I secretly harbor treachery toward her.
Even if she claims I harbor betrayal

Her family brought her perfume, so she laughed.
Her family brought her perfume, and she smiled
And she said, 'Does perfume—woe to you all—seek perfume?'
And said, "Does fragrance seek fragrance and unite with fragrance?"
أَحاديثُهاher talk دُرٌّpearls وَدُرٌّand pearls كَلامُهاher speech
وَلَمand did not أَرَI see دُرّاًa pearl قَبلَهُbefore it يَنظِمُstringing الدُراthe pearls
Her talk is pearls, and her speech is pearls.
Her words are pearls and her speech is pearls
And never before have I seen a pearl stringing pearls.
And I have not seen pearls before that string pearls
