I came to Yahya, who had

been my friend and dear companion.

So I said, “What is wrong with this

young man, recoiling in disgust and turning away?”

Then he recoiled from me like a

captive who saw a leather strap.

Then a man fond of joking said to me,

    who turns jest into earnest:

“Such is the generous man when

he wishes to eat his midday meal.”
