ياO جُفوناًeyelids سَواهِراًsleepless أَعدَمَتهاhave deprived them
لَذَّةَthe sweetness of النَومِsleep وَالرُقادِand slumber جُفونُeyelids
O sleepless eyelids, robbed
O sleepless eyelids, robbed
of the sweetness of sleep and slumber by other eyes!
of the sweetness of sleep and slumber by eyelids!
أَينَwhere مِنكَfrom you الدِماءُblood قَدalready نَفِدَhas run out الدَمthe tears (word continues)
عُcompletion of 'the tears' الَّذيthat مِنكَfrom you يَمتَريهِdraws it forth الحَنينُyearning
Where is your blood? The tear has already run dry—
Where is your blood? Spent are the tears
the one that longing wrings from you.
that yearning draws from you.
بَلِيَhas withered الجِسمُthe body لَكِنِbut الشَوقُlonging حَيٌّalive
لَيسَdoes not يَبلىwither وَلَيسَand do not تَبلىwither الشُجونُsorrows
The body has wasted away, but longing lives,
The body has withered, but longing lives;
never wasting away, nor do sorrows fade.
it does not wither, nor do sorrows wither.
إِنَّindeed لِلَّهِbelonging to God فيamong العِبادِthe servants مَناياdeaths

Truly, God has deaths among His servants—
Indeed, God has deaths among His servants
the eyes have unleashed them upon hearts.
that eyes have unleashed upon hearts.
