عَريتُmay I be stripped مِنَof الهَوىlove وَبَرِئتُand may I be free مِنهُof it
لَئِنif indeed أَناI لَمnot أُعاقِبI punish مُقلَتَيكاyour two eyes
May I be stripped of love and freed of it,
if I do not punish your eyes.
بَعَثتُكَI sent you رائِداًas a scout فَسَرَقتَso you stole مِنهُfrom him
مَحاسِنَهُhis charms بِلَحظَةِwith a glance of ناظِرَيكاyour two eyes
I sent you as a scout, and you stole from him
his charms with a glance of your eyes.
وَجِئتَand you came تَقولُyou say لَمnot أَرَهI see him وَهَذيand these
مَحاسِنُهُhis charms تَلوحُgleam بِوَجنَتَيكاupon your two cheeks
And you came saying, 'I did not see him,' yet these are
his charms, gleaming upon your cheeks.
فَإِنso if تَكُyou are ياO رَسولُmessenger كَتَمتَنيهِyou concealed him from me
لَقَدindeed ظَهَرَتhave appeared مَحاسِنُهُhis charms عَلَيكاupon you
So if, O messenger, you have concealed him from me,
his charms have surely appeared upon you.
