أَقولُI say لِمُرتادِto the seeker of النَدىbounty عِندَwith مالِكٍMalik
أَقولُ لِمُرتادِ النَدى عِندَ مالِكٍ
تَعَوَّذseek refuge بِجَدوىin the bounty of مالِكٍMalik وَصِلاتِهِand his gifts
تَعَوَّذ بِجَدوى مالِكٍ وَصِلاتِهِ
I say to one who seeks bounty from Malik:
Seek refuge in Malik’s bounty and gifts.
فَتىًa young man جَعَلَhas made المَعروفَkindness مِنin دونِfront of عِرضِهِhis honor
فَتىً جَعَلَ المَعروفَ مِن دونِ عِرضِهِ
سَريعاًswift إِلىto المُمتاحِthe seeker of gifts قَبلَbefore عِداتِهِhis promises
سَريعاً إِلى المُمتاحِ قَبلَ عِداتِهِ
A youth who makes kindness a shield for his honor,
Kindness swift to reach the seeker before his promises.
وَلَوand if قَصَّرَتfell short أَموالُهُhis wealth عَنof سَماحِهِhis generosity
وَلَو قَصَّرَت أَموالُهُ عَن سَماحِهِ
لَقاسَمَhe would surely share with مَنwhoever يَرجوهُlooks to him with hope شَطرَhalf of حَياتِهِhis life
لَقاسَمَ مَن يَرجوهُ شَطرَ حَياتِهِ
Were his wealth to fall short of his generosity,
He would share half his life with whoever looked to him.
وَإِنand if لَمdid not يَجِدfind فيin قِسمَةِdividing العُمرِthe lifespan حيلَةًa way
وَإِن لَم يَجِد في قِسمَةِ العُمرِ حيلَةً
وَجازَand were permissible لَهُfor him الإِعطاءُgiving مِنof حَسَناتِهِhis good deeds
وَجازَ لَهُ الإِعطاءُ مِن حَسَناتِهِ
And if he found no way to divide his lifespan,
And were permitted to give of his good deeds,
لَجادَhe would surely give generously بِهاwith them مِنwith غَيرِno كُفرٍdisbelief بِرَبِّهِin his Lord
لَجادَ بِها مِن غَيرِ كُفرٍ بِرَبِّهِ
وَآساهُمُand would share with them مِنfrom صَومِهِhis fasting وَصَلاتِهِand his prayer
وَآساهُمُ مِن صَومِهِ وَصَلاتِهِ
He would give them freely, without disbelieving in his Lord,
And share with them his fasting and his prayers.
