وَاِرحَم فَقَد أَشمَتَّ أَعداهُ
Take pity on him, if you are his master,
Have pity on him, if you are his master.
and have mercy—for you have made his enemies gloat.
And show mercy, for you have made his enemies gloat.

Woe to him if this condition persists within him,
Woe to him if this endures within him:
from searing pangs that convulse his innards.
Burning pangs that torment his vitals.

O bough of the bān tree, supple in form,
O bān-tree bough, supple of form,
atop a sandhill, its crown swaying—
Whose top sways above a sand dune,

you have denied my eyes the sweetness of sleep;
You have denied my eyes sweet slumber;
be kind, as God has made you beautiful.
Show kindness, as God has made you beautiful.
