Muqran, O you with the branching head,

May you never be free of worry and anxious thoughts.

Do not be hard of heart, and weep for one who was not

At all harsh toward the sorrowful, lovesick man.

The young men's sweet basil has now become

A captive of graveyards and tombs.

And say to her: “O my wife, I am crushed

By your loss—or rather, O wife of all men!”
